Calm & clear weather.  St[eame]r Stepping Stones went up the river

and Island Belle with a schooner & scow in tow went down.  9.30 A flag of truce

arrived at City P[oin]t.  9.50 got under weigh and proceeded up the river.  soon after starting the belt to the starb[oar]d blowing engine broke causing us to run with one blower for an hour when we could only run 2 ½ knots.  Thermometer in the galley with both blowers running stood at 132˚ & 128˚.  soon as blower stopped it rose to 150˚.  11 AM met U.S. St[eame]r  Mahaska coming down sent on board of us two Danish naval officers. 11.30 owing to derangement of machinery stopped & came to anchor.  12 M got underweight again                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  E,V. Meridian to 4 PM

Wind & weather same.  Thermometer stood in galley 150 degrees, Boat deck 125˚, Water closet stood 131˚.  On deck in shade 90 in sun 125.  1 P.M Mahaska & Jacob Bell came up in company anchored at 3.30 PM. 12 miles above at c[i]ty P[oin]t. where we found the Galena & Port Royal 3.45 PM Port Royal went down                                                                                                                                                                        Louis Stodder

Light airs & clear St[eame]r Stepping Stones went down the river with the two danish officers
