Remarks February 27

 

Comes in cloudy weather light

Wind from N.E. 

Two A.M commenced towing. 

From 4 to 8 A.M.Thick weather and Snowing

Seven A.M Pilot came on board 

And took charge 

Proceeded from Navy Yard accompanied

By Steam Tug Free boarne had not proceeded far before they found a

Defect in the Steering Gear.  Returned and anchored off Cob Dock

In five fathoms Water 20 fathoms cable out.

From Meridian to 4 P.M. Weather cold

And clear Wind N. W force 4 

At 2 P.M Wind Increasing played

Out ten fathoms cable

From 4 to 6 P.M.wind N.W with

Streak clouds From 6 to 8 P.M. Wind North and Moderating                      

From 8 to Midnight the Weather clearing and

Cold light airs from Northward

So ends the day
