Black History Month 2012
In honor of Black History Month, The Mariners' Museum honors African-Americans and their contributions to maritime history. Programs will be held in the Museum's Roper Theater, and are included with regular Museum admission.
Programs on February 18 include:
10:30 a.m.
Dr. Saundra Cherry presents Harriet Tubman,
abolitionist, humanitarian, Union spy and Underground Railroad conductor.
11:15 a.m.
Dr. Wesley Wilson interprets the life of James Daniels Gardner,
a native of Gloucester County and winner of the Medal of Honor.
12:00 p.m.
Dr. Saundra Cherry portrays Elizabeth Bowser, prolific Union spy who worked in Jefferson Davis’s mansion.
