Earth Day Homeschool Day

EARTH DAY
HOMESCHOOL DAY

Monday, April 22, 2013
9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

What on Earth are you going to do for Earth Day?
Whether you travel by car, bus, bicycle, or on foot, join The Mariners’ Museum on April 22 as the Museum celebrates Earth Day. Earth Day is celebrated across the globe in hopes of bringing awareness and a deeper appreciation for the planet on which we live.

As The Mariners’ Museum marks the day, we will focus on our own backyard - the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed. As the largest estuary in the country, the Chesapeake Bay has played a vital role in the nation's history, economy and environment. On Monday, April 22, homeschoolers and other students will explore the Museum from an environmental perspective, all while participating in scheduled classes and ongoing activities. Students will evaluate the condition of the Chesapeake Bay, experiment with ways the Bay can filter water, investigate the affects of marine debris on sea life, and so much more! Students can enjoy scavenger hunts, crafts, and interactive classes related to environmental science, such as:

• Chesapeake Bay: An Estuary in Crisis, for 4th - 12th grades
• Messages on the Waves: Tides and Currents, for 5th - 12th grades
• Bay Critters, for K-4th grades
• The Bay Way, for K-3rd grades

Cost is $10 per person.

Offered in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Home Educators Association of Virginia (HEAV).
