Museum Event Areas  

The Mariners' Museum has been a Newport News landmark for over 75 years. We offer a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces that can be setup for a variety of events. Our spaces allow us to accommodate intimate parties of 25, or larger gatherings of more than 1,000. The Concourse & Patio

The Concourse & Patio is a unique combination of indoor and outdoor space. A wall of windows overlooks Lake Maury and dancing the night away under the stars is no longer a dream as you host your event under the concourse’s three large skylights. Capable of holding a variety of events, it can be a great addition to the lobby, or rented alone. This striking hall is only available after 6:00 P.M. with your caterer allowed to begin set up at 4:00 P.M.

The Lobby

Elegant and distinctive, our Lobby is our largest facility accommodating up to 300 people for a seated function and as many as 500 for a standing reception. The majestic gold Lancaster Eagle serves as the focal point of this luxurious space. By renting The Lobby, your guests are also able to view the prestigious Chesapeake Bay Gallery at no additional cost. The use of this room is available after 6:00 P.M. with your caterer allowed to begin setting up at 4:00 P.M.

The Monitor Replica

Built in 2007 by the Northrop Grumman Newport News Apprentice School, the Monitor Replica can add just the unique touch you are looking for. Great for small cocktail parties, this space looks over the USS Monitor Center, our park, and Lake Maury with exquisite views.

The Great Hall of Steam

For your intimate affair, consider using The Great Hall of Steam. The Great Hall of Steam is the only gallery space available for events in the Museum. Your guests are greeted by a large hall filled with spectacular model ships encased in decorative glass cases and overlooked by large statue heads from famous ships. The Great Hall permits seated receptions up to 70 people, or 150 guests to mingle. This impressive gallery is only available after 6:00 P.M. with your caterer allowed to begin set up at 4:00 P.M.

The Huntington & Anna Rooms

Named after the Museum’s founder, Archer Huntington, The Huntington Room is an elegantly appointed space overlooking the South Courtyard. It comfortably accommodates groups of 20 to 180 for a seated reception, and 300 for a standing affair. Classroom and theater style seating also work very well with this rooms dynamics as it includes a LCD projector and built in PA system for no additional fee. In addition to its availability for evening functions, The Huntington Room is the only indoor facility which is available during Museum daytime hours.

The South Courtyard

Its breathtaking scenery and neatly groomed landscaping makes The South Courtyard the perfect setting for a daytime event under the sun or an evening dance under the stars. Surrounded by soft lighting, the courtyard makes a great backdrop for wedding ceremonies and receptions. The Courtyard’s unique features include a fountain, a colonnade with ceiling fans, and English-Style lanterns gracing its lawn.

The Virginia Courtyard

SpecialWithin our award-winning USS Monitor Center lies theVirginia Courtyard. A stone pathway leads through the center of this courtyard surrounded by pristine landscaping and a unique historical artifact.   

Include a Tour for Your Guests

Want to give your guests even more? Allow them to tour the Museum during your event. This is a great touch for out-of-town guests, groups who want to mix and mingle, or parties who want to showcase their own unique tie-ins to our museum and its exhibitions.
