Sea Glass: Pieces From the Collection

Now through April 28, 2010
In conjunction with this spring's exhibition, The Art of Glass II, presented by the Chrysler Museum of Art and the Contemporary Art Center, The Mariners' Museum will open Sea Glass, featuring unique items from the collection that are artistic, functional, or both. Expect to see a variety of items, from lighthouse lenses to bottles of rum, from stained glass windows to a medicine chest and ships in a bottle.

Building Better Ships: Featuring the Paintings of Thomas C. Skinner

Now through March 11, 2011
The Mariners' Museum's new special exhibition Building Better Ships shows off one of Newport News's finest industries--shipbuilding--this exhibition features the lifelike paintings of 1930's shipyard scenes by Thomas C. Skinner. Also featured are photos, videos, video interviews, and artifacts, as well as interactive activities for the entire family.

Message In A Bottle

Now through January 31, 2010
It is estimated that each year 14 billion pounds of trash and over 230 million plastic bottles are dumped into the worldís oceans. This new special exhibition, which features the compelling photographs of Andy Hughes and Chris Jordan, will examine the phenomenon of American consumerism and its environmental impact. Sculptures created by students and faculty from Christopher Newport University and the College of William and Mary will also be featured.
