Watermen Videos

Few stories are as integral to the history of this region as that of the men and women who work the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Although we frequently hear stories on the news about the diminishing stocks of oysters, blue crabs, and fish in the Bay, and the increasingly jeopardized resources of the nation’s largest estuary, rarely do we have an opportunity to connect these reports with the individuals who most keenly feel the impact of this devastating trend.

The Last Boat Out

The Last Boat Out is a documentary film produced, directed, and written by Laura Seltzer and narrated by award-winning actor, Sam Waterston.

"The documentary weaves two tales: The inspiring story of a family of watermen tirelessly trying to preserve their life working the waters of the bay. It is also the story of a bay battered by development and pollution yet struggling to stay alive. It is a story of neglect, mistakes, diminishing harvests, and development run amok, but it is also a story of hope and human determination."

The Last Boat Out aired on PBS in the spring of 2010. Shown here are excerpts from the 30-minute film courtesy of Seltzer Film and Video, LLC. For more information go to www.LastBoatOut.com.  Watch Video
