Registration is now open for the 9th Annual 10K on the Noland Trail

Newport News, Va.-- Runners from throughout the region will gather in The Mariners’ Museum Park on Saturday, October 17 for the 9th Annual 10K on the Noland Trail. The race will kick off at 9 a.m. and will follow a course along Museum Drive and into the Park along the scenic Noland Trail. Runners of all ages are encouraged to participate, but the race is limited to the first 300 registrants. Prizes will be awarded in a variety of age groups. Pre-registration is $25 if received by 5 p.m. on October 16 or $20 for members of the Friends of the Park. Race day registration is $30 per person. All participants will receive a free long-sleeved event t-shirt. Proceeds benefit The Mariners’ Museum Park and the Noland Trail. The 9th Annual 10K on the Noland Trail is sponsored in part by Riverside Hospital, the Orthopaedic & Spine Center, Associates in Dermatology, Inc., and the Peninsula Track Club.

Younger runners and their families are encouraged to participate in the 1-Mile Family Fun Run, which begins at 8:30 a.m. and is open to all ages, strollers and walkers – anyone wanting to have a good time while getting a little exercise. Awards will be given to the first three to cross the finish line. All participants are asked to register and a recommended $5 donation to the Park is requested in lieu of a registration fee.

Volunteers are needed for the Museum’s Annual Park Clean-up, which will begin at 1 p.m., following the 10K. Participants are asked to register in advance and will work in specific areas of need in The Mariners’ Museum Park and along the James River. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and are also invited to enjoy refreshments and a presentation by Dr. Harold Cones on environmental issues facing the Chesapeake Bay and how to preserve the bay as a natural resource. The Park Clean-Up is sponsored in part by a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network. For more information or to volunteer, contact Christopher Spraggins at (757) 591-7747.

The 550-acre Mariners’ Museum Park is the nation’s largest privately owned and maintained park open for free to the public. Thanks to the ongoing generosity of the Noland Family, the Noland Trail, a popular walking and running destination, offers scenic views of Lake Maury as it winds through the park and over fourteen wooden foot bridges. The Lion’s Bridge is another Park landmark, noted for its four lion statues created by the artist Anna Hyatt Huntington.
