Rep. Rob Wittman speaks Monday at The Mariners’ Museum
Newport News, Va. - (November 2011) - U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman will speak at The Mariners’ Museum at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, November 7 as part of the Museum’s Fall Lecture Series. The title of his talk will be Chesapeake Bay Environmental Restoration: Political and Policy Challenges of Restoring a National Treasure.
The talk will be free to both Members and non-Members. Wittman will speak on his experience and perspective on efforts to restore the Chesapeake Bay.
Rep. Wittman has represented Virginia’s First Congressional District since 2007, following two years in the Virginia House of Delegates. Prior to service in the U.S. House of Representatives, he spent 23 years as an environmental scientist and public health official with the Commonwealth of Virginia, most recently as field director for the Virginia Health Department's Division of Shellfish Sanitation. Earlier, he worked as an environmental health specialist for local health departments in Virginia's Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula regions.
He holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, a masters degree in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina, and a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Virginia Tech.
In Congress, he serves on the House Armed Services Committee and on the Committee on Natural Resources.

The Mariners' Museum, an educational, non-profit institution accredited by the American Association of Museums, preserves and interprets maritime history through an international collection of ship models, figureheads, paintings and other maritime artifacts.
