Return from conservation

Last year I posted about winning money from the Bronze Door Society to conserve my favorite painting in the collection. Well, I’m happy to say that the painting has now returned from conservation and looks amazing!

Painting pre-conservation

Notice how dark the painting was. It’s difficult to see, but there is a tear on the pyramid, just above the second smoke stack. The canvas was loose on the stretcher and part of the artist’s signature (as well as people and camel feet) were wrapped around the bottom edge, obscuring them.

in the process of conservation’

This is the painting in the process of conservation. I like to call it Night and Day because the left half shows just how clear and bright the painting should look. It’s amazing what a good cleaning can do for a painting. This also really hyped us up to see the finished project.

post conservation

The finished product! Richmond Conservation Studio did an amazing job and I couldn’t be happier with how the painting now looks! The next step is to order a frame for the piece and then find somewhere to display it. And again, I would just like to say THANK YOU to the Bronze Door Society for supporting these types of projects!
