The Museum is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive this May. The drive aligns with our upcoming exhibit, Answering America’s Call: Newport News in World War I, which commemorates the 100th anniversary of America’s involvement in the “war to end all wars.”
Blood donation has its roots in WWI. The first blood depot was established by an Army doctor in advance of a battle during the war. The American Red Cross was a valuable resource to those serving in World War I and several Red Cross facilities in Newport News provided support to soldiers and sailors in the area.
