Live Program: Naming Legacies from the Battle of Iwo Jima

July 20 @ 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM

Naming Legacies from the Battle of Iwo Jima
Presented by Marc Nucup, public historian

Join The Mariners’ Museum and Public Historian, Marc Nucup, for a live program about US Navy ships that were named to honor individuals who fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Viewers are welcome to send comments or questions during the presentation.

The US Navy has long had a tradition of naming its vessels after significant or heroic people from US history. In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima, Marc will briefly examine the Navy ships that honor individuals associated with the February 1945 invasion. The Battle of Iwo Jima was a major battle between the US and Japan during World War II, resulting in a US victory but at a significant cost of lives.

Guests can choose their live experience. For a more interactive experience, register for the Zoom workshop where you can send comments or questions during the presentation. Or if you prefer to just enjoy and watch the program, select the YouTube Live option. Both are free!
