Presented by John V. Quarstein, Director of the USS Monitor Center

Noted decoy collector, John V. Quarstein, director of the USS Monitor Center, will share his passion and expertise about decoys in this special presentation featuring decoys from The Mariners’ Museum and Park’s collection as well as some of his favorites from his vast private collection. Learn what a decoy is, how they were produced, the reasons for their different body styles and paint patterns, how geography influences the decoy style, and why decoys were in high demand for market gunning during the late 19th-century. You will leave with a new appreciation of these “floating sculptures” and their importance to the sportsmen and watermen of the Chesapeake Bay.
