Lincoln’s Admirals
Presenter:
John V. Quarstein
Director emeritus of the USS Monitor Center
About the lecture:
Union admirals such as David Farragut, D.D. Porter, John Dahlgren, and Samuel Francis DuPont earned widespread recognition for their wartime victories. Yet many other flag officers made vital contributions without achieving the same fame. This presentation highlights leaders like Silas Horton Stringham and Louis M. Goldsborough, as well as administrators Francis Gregory and Joseph Smith, whose behind-the-scenes efforts helped build and manage the Union Navy.
