About the Lecture

Prepare for an edge-of-your-seat evening when Buddy Levy, a favorite guest speaker of The Mariners’ Evening Lecture Series, returns to share the true, harrowing story of the ill-fated 1913 Canadian Arctic Expedition in his latest page-turning life-and-death Arctic epic, Empire of Ice and Stone: The Disastrous and Heroic Voyage of the Karluck.

Set against the backdrop of the Titanic disaster and World War I, Empire of Ice and Stone chronicles the 1913 Canadian Arctic Expedition, focusing on the two men who came to define it: Vilhjalmur Stefansson, expedition leader, and Robert A. Bartlett, captain and navigator of the wooden-hulled brig Karluk.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for guests attending the lecture in person. Come early to view seldom-seen objects from the Museum’s Collection, many collected by Karluk‘s Captain Robert Bartlett, on display in the Lower Lobby from 6 – 6:45 p.m.

Attendees are welcome to send comments or questions to Buddy, and he will answer following the lecture.

A book signing follows the Q&A.
