About the Lecture

In March 1862, both Union and Confederate armies had established major fortifications to protect their side of Hampton Roads. Many of these defensive works were involved in the Battle of Hampton Roads and subsequent actions during the 1862 Peninsula Campaign. Fortifications like Fort Monroe would serve as the base for all major Union amphibious operations during the Civil War.
