About the Lecture

Lt. John Lorimer Worden’s first Civil War assignment was to deliver secret messages to the Federal fleet off Pensacola, Florida. His actions helped to save Ft. Pickens for the Union; however, they resulted in Worden being captured. This made him the war’s first prisoner of war, and he was not exchanged until November 1862.
