Math takes on a maritime twist in this playful Museum experience. Young learners will practice listening, counting, and number identification through storytelling, games, and exploration of boats from around the world, making early math concepts feel active and approachable.
Maritime Storytime
Students will practice listening comprehension while immersing themselves in the world of maritime adventures.
Counting and Number Games
Students will participate in a lively game designed to practice counting and number identification. This activity is crafted to enhance their numerical skills while learning about different on-the-water careers.
Exploring the International Small Craft Center
The adventure continues with a guided tour of the Museum’s International Small Craft Center. Here, students will examine a diverse collection of boats from around the world and make connections to the math concepts introduced during the story and game.
With stories, games, numbers, and boats all in the mix, students will strengthen early numeracy, listening, teamwork, and curiosity while discovering that math can be found almost anywhere.
Learning Objectives
- Students will identify and name numbers 1-10.
- Students will practice listening comprehension skills by answering up to 3 questions about a story related to maritime topics.
- Students will engage in career exploration by identifying at least one type of career involved in boat rescue (i.e. Coast Guard, Navy, etc.)
- Remembers and follows 2-step directions to complete simple tasks (e.g., “wash your hands then help prepare or eat a snack”) (APL3.2l)
- Asks or answers questions about what is happening in a book or story (CLLD2.2k)
- Retells 1-2 key events from a story (CLLD2.2l)
- Names some numbers when they appear in print (CD3.1j)
Pricing:
Payment can be made before the program, or we can invoice following your program.
- Programs at the Museum are $4.50 per student.
All adults accompanying a field trip are free. - Programs at your location are $4.50 per student.
- Virtual education programs are $125 per program.
Reservations are required for all programs and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Programs fill quickly in the fall and spring, so make your reservations a minimum of two weeks in advance.
