Duration: 30 minutes
One of the richest men who ever lived didn’t build railways or start a tech company; he helped establish one of the wealthiest empires in human history. Mighty rulers and trade made the Mali Empire flourish well before the arrival of Europeans. In this 30-minute interactive program, students learn about this ancient civilization by examining West Africa’s boatbuilding traditions, the importance of trade, and the ancient city of Timbuktu. Students will also explore the influence of ancient maps and have the opportunity to create their own trade map!
