What could ancient hieroglyphs possibly have in common with today’s emojis? Students will explore that connection while investigating ancient Egypt’s history, geography, language, watercraft, and culture through Museum collection objects, a decoding activity, and creative visual storytelling.
Explore Ancient Egypt Through the Collection
Students will explore ancient Egypt’s history, geography, language, watercraft, and culture using objects from our Museum collection.
Decode Hieroglyphs
Students will decipher ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and modern-day “hieroglyphs” as they compare ways people communicate.
Tell a Story with Emojis
Students will get creative by deciphering stories using emojis.
By decoding symbols and creating visual stories of their own, students will strengthen observation skills and cultural understanding while making an engaging connection between ancient Egypt and modern communication. Most of our virtual education programs are scheduled through ZOOM Cloud-based video conferencing. ZOOM is free to use and requires minimal equipment. Learning Objectives
- Students will locate ancient Egypt on a map of the world.
- Students will describe 3 ways the ancient Egyptians relied heavily on the Nile River.
- Students will demonstrate cultural competence by identifying 2 ways in which Ancient Egyptian culture has influenced the world today.
- Students will explore the career of Egyptology by discussing the importance of Hieroglyphs.

Pricing:
Payment can be made before the program, or we can invoice following your program.
- Programs at the Museum are $4.50 per student.
All adults accompanying a field trip are free. - Programs at your location are $4.50 per student.
- Virtual education programs are $125 per program.
Reservations are required for all programs and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Programs fill quickly in the fall and spring, so make your reservations a minimum of two weeks in advance.
