     Throughout the year, 6th - 10th graders transform into scientists for the day during The Mariners’ education program, Buggin’ Out in the Bay. Through a mix of outdoor activities and indoor demonstrations, students investigate critters, run tests, and record data to assess the health of Mariners’ Lake, while learning what they can do to have a positive impact on our local watershed.

    Did you know Virginia has only two natural lakes? The rest are man-made, including our very own Mariners’ Lake! It holds the title as the first, and the oldest, project started on the grounds of The Mariners’ Museum Park.

    After the Battle of Hampton Roads, USS Monitor gained the title of "The little ship that saved the nation".  The ship's newfound fame set off a "Monitor Craze" in the US, as hosts of vessels emerged with the same name.
